How It All Started

This is going to be interesting.

We've never worked in the hospitality industry. We've never run a B&B We've never built anything on a scale larger than a one-family house.

So why are we building a "green" Inn?

Sometimes, life points you in a direction and says: "time to put your values into action." The Green Leaf Inn is the direction where our lives pointed us.

The original plan for the site

The first plan for the site used the best available technology

We moved to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (follow this link to learn more about the area) in October of 1998 for the same reason that people have been coming here for more than a century. It's a beautiful place, vibrant in the summer, peaceful the rest of the year, close to three metropolitan areas (Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison) yet refreshingly rural in character. Like many areas which depend on tourism, Lake Geneva struggles with the dilemma of developing its local economy without ruining the precious asset of its local ecology.

We work in the energy industry, combining an emphasis on wise use of resources with promotion of green technologies. We are committed to the ideals of the green lifestyle. We are also committed to the long-term economic success of Lake Geneva. We live on a desirable parcel of land adjacent to one of the area's main road.

Life pointed. We acted. And we're going to share the results with you as they happen. We'll document our decisions as we make them and chart our progress as it takes place. You share our successes and our...hopefully, they will all be successes. Along the way, we will all learn what it takes to build green, run green, buy and sell green, and live green.

We hope you enjoy the ride.

The Plan

The Green Leaf Inn will be a luxury 19-unit Bed and Breakfast featuring Jacuzzi suites, five separate garden areas, a learning center for green technology, and a pottery studio. The B&B will be made up of two buildings, a purpose-built structure and a rebuilding of an existing structure (it's currently our home).

Initial plan submitted to the Town Council

This initial architect's site map was presented to the Lake Geneva Town Council

Our aim is to promote green technologies, sustainable practices and wise use philosophies in all aspects of the construction and day-to-day operations of the site, including energy technologies, building systems, garden and landscaping practices, materials used, and the experience of our visitors.

We hope you will bookmark this site for frequent visits to follow our progress. Your comments and input are always welcome.
